The Samsung Galaxy S5 has the best Super-AMOLED display ever used by the Korean giant in any of its products. In fact, it is so good that it led Display Mate to crown it as the best smartphone display they have ever tested. Now, Samsung has gone ahead and explained how it managed to make the Galaxy S5 display better than its predecessors. Thanks to the local contrast enhancement feature, the Super AMOLED display on the Galaxy S5 automatically increases the display brightness and changes the contrast level depending on the ambient light, to make sure it is clearly visible even under direct sunlight. Apart from being super bright, the Galaxy S5 display also supports super dimming, which automatically allows it to make fine adjustments to the luminance in dark environments to reduce the strain on your eyes. Other notable features include the ability to analyse the content on the screen and the ambient light to optimise the colour range, saturation and the sharpness of the display. Samsung states that the Galaxy S5 display will automatically change the illumination level to make sure the content on the display appears natural. For example, under blue lighting, the Galaxy S5 display will adjust its illuminance to make sure it does not appear yellowish. In the article, Samsung also boasts about the colour accuracy of its latest Super AMOLED panel. An engineer from the company states that the colour gamut of the AMOLED display is 1.4 times larger than a TFT LCD with contrast ratio being 77 times higher. Thanks to this and other calibration enhancements, the Galaxy S5 display is able to meet the sRGB as well as the Adobe RGB standards via its Cinema and Professional photo mode, respectively. Lastly, Samsung states that the Galaxy S5 display has a response time of only 0.01 ms, which is currently the fastest on the market. The response time of a phone plays a major role in how smooth the user experience is and can affect the user perception about a device greatly.
