Samsung Electronics today announced the world’s first 16MP camera sensor for smartphones featuring a pixel size of 1um. The smaller pixel size has allowed Samsung to reduce the height of the sensor by 20 percent to only 5mm thereby making it perfect for future smartphones that keep getting thinner. The S5K3P3 sensor uses Samsung’s ISOCELL technology to make sure that there is no visible drop in imaging performance and quality despite the sensor coming with 1.0um pixels. The use of ISOCELL dramatically reduces color crosstalk and increases the light sensitivity of each pixel for higher color fidelity. The 16MP camera sensor from Samsung is available for OEMs to implement in their next-generation smartphones from today itself.
