If you want to buy Google Glass right now, you’re going to have to fork over an insane amount of money to one of the few people lucky enough to own one. They also have to be willing to void their agreement with Google, which says they can’t resell Glass. Google sold “Explorer Edition” versions of Glass to those who attended I/O 2012 for $1,500, but normal people, people like you and me, we’re going to have to wait at least a year to be able to buy glass. According to Business Insider, we might just be buying them from an official Google store.
The site says they have a second hand source that claims Google will be opening up retail shops that sell just one thing and one thing only, Glass. No word as to where these stores will be, how large they’ll be, or whether or they’ll open in places other than the United States, but you have to appreciate the logic behind such a move, assuming it’s true. Think about it, are you going to fork over several hundreds of dollars for a headset that you might found out you don’t really like? And also, from a marketing perspective, having a “Glass Shop” serves as a way to attract people’s interest. It’s early days, and I’m not willing to discount it just yet, but version one is obviously a prototype not meant for regular use.
