It is now Toyota’s turn to recall some vehicles. Luckily this one doesn’t include nearly as many as the other recalls, but it is severe. So, if you drive a Toyota Tundra that has halogen lights, you need to pay attention. The latest recall spans just over 150,000 pickups. Read on to find out why it’s so dangerous and if your vehicle is impacted.
Here’s the backstory
If you drive a Toyota Tundra with model years from 2018 to 2021 and use halogen light bulbs, you are at serious risk of injury. After several reported incidents, it was determined that the halogen bulbs in the headlights could catch fire. According to Consumer Reports, “Because of faulty wiring, both low- and high-beam headlights could illuminate at the same time.” This isn’t a good thing, as the bulbs could fail in the best-case scenario. If you are one of the unlucky few, the bulbs will overheat to the point where they catch fire.
What you should do next
Not turning on your headlights could buy you some time to get it fixed, but you must do so as soon as possible. To correct the problem, take your affected pickup to the nearest Toyota dealership, where the bulbs and faulty wiring will be fixed free of charge. Toyota will also be contacting owners of affected vehicles through mail starting in October. That is still a long way off, so it’s best not to wait for the letter to arrive.
