Qualcomm’s latest and greatest chipset — the Snapdragon 810 — is a monster in terms of performance, features, as well as heat generation. Qualcomm today officially announced its first 64-bit high-end chipsets for mobile devices — the Snapdragon 808 and 810. Both the processors are 64-bit enabled with ARMv8 ISA and are based on ARM’s big.LITTLE design and come with an integrated Cat 6 LTE modem. As the naming scheme might have suggested, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 is the faster of the two and is a quad-core chip (technically eight) packing in ARM’s 64-bit Cortex-A57 and Cortex-A53 CPUs to deliver the perfect balance between performance battery life....

Blame it on too much of poetry when I was in school, but the release of the Moto G (3rd generation) reminded me so much of Lord Tennyson’s poem about the legendary Light Brigade that rode into the valley to confront Russian guns at the battle of Balaclava in 1854. What’s also interesting is that while you can pick up manufacturer (e.g. Samsung) headphones on the likes of eBay for under £10 (sometimes real, sometimes less so), there’s a huge gap to the big brands (and believe me, you pay for the brand labelling) like ‘Beats’, whose headphones start at £80 or so and go if into the stratosphere from there. What about the middle ground? Where a pair of 4-pole smartphone-aware headphones with really good audio quality came in at a price low enough that they didn’t rape your wallet, yet not so low that you doubt the quality of the design and components?...

Samsung has confirmed to Motherboard that it will not be repairing or refurbishing the 2.5 million+ units of the Galaxy Note 7 that it has recalled. Instead, the company will safely be disposing of the phones it will receive. Since Samsung announced that it would be ending production of the Galaxy Note 7 and recalling all the units sold, rumors were rife that the company would use the salvageable parts from the Note 7 inside a new smartphone to save costs....

As rumored, Samsung has gone ahead and unveiled its new metal-clad phone — the Galaxy Alpha. The handset features “a sophisticated design in a carefully constructed compact body with a metal frame.” The highlight of the Galaxy Alpha is clearly its design and build quality, as it marks a stark departure from Samsung’s previous offerings that were predominantly built using plastic and had a very poor in hand feel.
