Up until last year, OnePlus was painfully slow in rolling out major Android updates to its devices. This year though, the company has been trying to turn a new leaf in its book by quickly rolling out software updates for the OnePlus 3. The handset has received steady software updates since its launch adding new features and fixing bugs. Following that trend, OnePlus’s head of software, Brian Yoon, has announced that the young startup will be rolling out a “community” build of Nougat for the OnePlus 3 by the end of this month....

And let’s get this straight – the OnePlus Avengers Infinity War edition (to give it its full name) is the most striking special edition OnePlus we have ever seen. Yes, it has exactly the same dimensions and button placement as the regular OnePlus 6 (read our first impressions here), but unlike its predecessors which largely depended on a different shade and/or a logo to stand out, this OnePlus sees some serious design work, and is perhaps the most “stand out in a crowd” OnePlus we have seen for a while....

Oppo today outed its latest budget handset: the Oppo A37. The handset sports a 5-inch 720p IPS LCD that is protected by a 2.5D curved Gorilla Glass 4. The metal unibody of the handset makes it look an awful like an iPhone, though Oppo phones have a tendency of looking similar to the iPhone. Inside the A37 is Qualcomm’s old and trusty Snapdragon 410 chipset, 2GB RAM, and 16GB of internal storage....

The Arm-based M1 and M2 chips used in the latest Mac models can no longer run the Intel x86 version of Windows, so those Macs had to rely on the Arm version of Windows – which itself has had something of a bumpy ride over the last few years. Also, along with various performance and compatibility issues faced when attempting to run existing Intel-based apps and software, Windows on Arm (WoA) is primarily licensed to OEM PC manufacturers, which meant that Parallels’ core business – running Windows on Mac – was starting to look like something of a dead end....

The FBI is seizing the 48 domains that facilitated DDoS attacks for paying customers against targeted computers. The DDoS attacks prevented the targeted computers from accessing the internet. According to the DoJ, the 48 websites were used to launch millions of DDoS attacks against victims around the world. The sites promoted themselves as a “stresser”, or a legitimate service to stress-test the customer’s network. But the FBI found this mechanism was a cover after viewing communications between the site administrators and customers, which indicated both parties were aware that the customer was not attempting to stress-test their own computers....

Amidst all the barrage of IFA announcements yesterday, Qualcomm provided more information about the Kryo custom cores that will be found inside its upcoming Snapdragon 820 chipset. Kryo is Qualcomm’s first custom designed 64-bit processor that has been designed to deliver high performance at low power levels. Kryo is based on the 14nm FinFET fabrication process and has been designed to reach speeds of up to 2.2GHz. Qualcomm says that Kryo CPU inside its Snapdragon 820 chipset will be able to deliver up to 2x the performance and 2x the power efficiency when compared to its existing high-end chipset – the Snapdragon 810....

In a joint letter sent to The Law Society, the NCSC and ICO say there’s been a rise in ransomware payments and that in some cases solicitors “may have been advising clients to pay” ransoms in the belief that it will keep the data safe or result in a lower financial penalty from the ICO. The Law Society is the professional association for solicitors for England and Wales. “In recent months, we have seen an increase in the number of ransomware attacks and ransom amounts being paid and we are aware that legal advisers are often retained to advise clients who have fallen victim to ransomware on how to respond and whether to pay....

Performance The RealMe 2 Pro and RealMe U1 are powered by two similar processors, albeit from separate brands. While the former runs on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 660 chipset, the latter is the first smartphone to offer MediaTek’s latest Helio P70. The RealMe 2 Pro also has more storage options with a maximum of 8GB RAM and 128GB internal storage. The highest you can get on the RealMe U1, however, is 4GB RAM and 64GB storage....

For $299 and a two year contract, you can walk out of a Verizon store with what’s arguably the best Samsung phone ever made. It’s got a 5.7 inch 1080p AMOLED display, Snapdragon 800, and 3 GB of RAM. If it’s too big for you, then I can’t recommend the Moto X enough....

Its been almost two months since Samsung pulled the plug on the Galaxy Note 7 due to the explosion fiasco. The company has since then reassured its customers through multiple forms of communications that it will be working on improving consumer safety of its products. The Korean company also promised that it would be publicly sharing the reason behind the Note 7 units exploding, which was first blamed on faulty batteries....

According to a fresh rumor on the Korean website ETNews, Samsung is having issues making enough AMOLED panels for mobile devices. So much so that when the company unveils the Note III in September at IFA in September, they’ll say it’s going to have a different display depending on which market it’s launched. Some markets will get a Note III with an AMOLED display. Others will have to make due with an LCD version....

If Google sticks to its yearly refresh routine, then we will more than likely see the Pixel 4 lineup later this year. And now we have our first reference of the handset out there in the wild courtesy of a Google employee. Direct references to a “Pixel 4” have been discovered within the Android Open Source Project, or AOSP. At the time of publication, it has been revealed that Google employee Andrey Konovalov has made two references to Pixel 4 within AOSP, as it relates to changes made to Android’s Linux kernel....
