After several brands have announced support for streaming in HD, it’s time for the well-known Chinese smartphone manufacturer OnePlus to do the same with the OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T. Unfortunately, this does not come without a snag. As if you want to update your device then keep in your mind that you have to take the device back to the brand simply to update it. The problems of OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T with Netflix HD streaming are not new. Since December last year we know that because of DRM problems, these equipments did not have access to these contents. It was not a unique problem for Netflix, but the truth was that it prevented users from accessing it.

The solution to OnePlus DRM problems

Now, almost 3 months later, the solution has arrived but bringing an unpleasant situation to users. Everyone who wants to access this functionality will have to send their equipment to OnePlus for a software upgrade. The reason for this return to the OnePlus home is the need to install this update on a properly authenticated PC. With this requirement, it becomes impossible for the update to be sent via OTA to all devices, as the brand normally does. The well-known Chinese smartphone manufacturer OnePlus is aware of the issues that this update brings to users and assumes all the costs of transporting the equipment to and from customers, but again with one condition.

The cause of this OnePlus problem

The problem with HD content on Netflix is that it is impossible for these devices to be granted the L1 WidevIne certification from Google, which is required by Netflix for their HD content. The new update can now meet these requirements. This is not a normal measure and it brings some problems to users. As they will be deprived of their equipment for some time, on the other hand, will deliver their smartphones to the brand, probably with their data present. So, what do you think about this?
